Workshop: “Nonlinear Imaging and Coherence Effects (NICE)”

Workshop

“Nonlinear Imaging and Coherence Effects (NICE)”

The workshop aims to bridge the gap between the linear and non-linear spectroscopy communities and the rapidly evolving field of coherent imaging. While techniques like second harmonic generation (SHG) and two-photon excitation fluorescence microscopy at optical wavelengths are already well-established for visualizing cellular structures, tissue, and functionalized surfaces, non-linear imaging at sub-100 nm wavelengths is still in its early stages.

This event will provide a dynamic forum to explore the scientific opportunities presented by non-linear effects in advanced imaging, especially using the unique coherence properties of free-electron lasers. The goal is to foster collaborations between experimental and theoretical researchers and inspire the development of next-generation instrumentation for studying intensity-dependent light–matter interactions.

A key focus of the workshop will be the active involvement of early-career researchers. This will give young scientists the opportunity to interact directly with leading experts, exchange ideas, and gain exposure to cutting-edge techniques and perspectives.

NICE2026 is co-organized by COST , through Action CA22148 – An international network for Non-linear Extreme Ultraviolet to hard X-ray techniques (NEXT). Organizational and administrative support is provided by Elettra-Sincrotrone Trieste S.C.p.A.
